Audiobook Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Everybody and their mom was talking about how great this book was. It had to be pretty good. Well, not so much. The story was interesting, but it wasn't great. Basically, an insanely intelligent punk/goth hacker helps an older dude solve a murder investigation. Mix in a handful of abused men, women, and animals, and you've got The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The writing was ok in parts, the story as a whole was a bit choppy. It's almost as is he wrote different parts of the story, and put them all together into a cohesive, but stylistically inconsistent story. And, at parts, it's just downright boring. Inner-workings of businesses, financial crimes, blah, blah, blah  - just stuff that's boring. I found my mind drifting away quite a bit during quite a few sections of this book. If I were you, I'd certainly hold off on reading this one. It's not awful, but certainly not worth the effort. Just wait for the movie to come out in 2011. I'm speculating that this might be the one case where the movie is going to be better than the book.
