Is The Original Kindle Fire Obsolete?About 2 years ago, we were gifted an is original Kindle Fire. It was, and still is, amazing. Except for one thing. There's no new apps to download. The same thing happened to my old iPod... and our original Wii for that matter. It works great... they all work great... but with nobody creating new content, none of them get used much.
A quick search showed me, that, indeed, as of September 2012, the Original Kindle Fire has become obsolete. My 4th Generation iPod touch is obsolete as well, as is our Wii. Heck, even the new Wii U is on it's way out.
All this money spent on technology you think will last forever, but tends to last about 3 years before new content is created for it. Yes, it's sad, but it's also a learning experience. My son's friends are all into Minecraft. So, while we could purchase a PS4 for $350, and buying the $60 games to play on it, we're looking at getting a $50 Kindle instead, where Minecraft is only $7. By buying the low-end Kindle, I won't feel as bad when we eventually will toss that one aside for whatever new gadget has replaced it. The hubby actually tossed around the idea of getting 2 kindles, one for each of our older kids, but I think that sharing one will be better. We already have a max of 40 minutes of screen time a day, so there is plenty of time for them to take turns. Plus, they can watch their sibling play, if they want, which can be fun too.
